Working along the coast I see groups of Sanderlings (Calidris alba) most weeks but rarely get the chance to photograph them. This week I was more lucky than usual as the rising tide brought a small group of them quite close to the car from which I was counting wader movements so I took a few minutes to go down onto the beach and get a bit nearer to them. They never came quite as close as I would have liked and, as usual, were very active feeding on prey items that seemd to be just below the surface of the sand. Thankfully the light was good and I managed a few half-decent photos, some of which are below.
