During the past week I’ve visited my local patch nearly every day and continued to put down some seeds in the hope of attracting more buntings to an area along the main track that they seems to favour. Numbers of Reed Buntings have ranged from 4 to 15 plus a single female Cirl Bunting on two occasions so I think there’s a regular core group at this spot and the remainder of the birds seen are probably just moving through. I know from ringing around the nearby reedbed that there are potentially hundreds of birds here in autumn and winter so hopefully this little spot will continue to prove interesting in the coming weeks.
